Event Description

The haunting images of local photographer Sofie Wastell will grace the walls of the Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery in downtown Sonoma from May 1 through July 15, 2009. The show, entitled “Be Still” focuses on the unique landscapes, monuments and icons of Historic cemeteries, from Sonoma’s own Mountain Cemetery to Cimetière du Père-Lachaise and Cimetière du Montparnasse in Paris and Highgate in London. Though primarily black & white images, subtle hints of color add an ethereal note to the subject matter.
A reception for the artist on Friday May 8th from 5 to 7 PM will showcase Charles Creek wines – including the newly released 2007 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and 2007 Alexander Valley Malbec – along with appropriate local cheeses. The reception is open to the public and there is no charge to attend.
Sofie Wastell is a Sonoma native and graduate of Sonoma Valley High School; her school years spent “...almost exclusively in the darkroom”. A large portion of the images captured for the current show are the result of a February 2009 trip to Europe, specifically to the cemeteries of London and Paris, resting places for such (diverse) notables as Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and Karl Marx.

Specializing in high quality Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon with a bit of Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Syrah and Grenache from great vineyard sources in the Sonoma and Napa Counties, Charles Creek Vineyard produces wines that are food friendly, fruit driven, and easily paired with the courses of a meal. The winery Tasting Room is conveniently situated in a charming 1890s era storefront on the historic Sonoma Plaza. In addition wine tasting and sales, the Tasting Room also provides space to show the work of local artists.
